Match No. 24 – RCB vs CSK – Mahi took it away from Virat

RCB vs CSK - MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni finished the game by hitting a six and CSK won the match by 5 wickets. Why does this CSK team like to test our hearts everytime they go out to play? Five of their six games were decided in the final over. You definitely got to feel for RCB. 205 on the board, CSK literally down and out. Just a matter of getting Rayudu/Dhoni with about 100 runs needed in 7 overs, but Dhoni was just sooooo cool in the Garden city that was cooled by the rain in the evening. And hey, rain gods, thanks a lot for just watching the cricket from up above. You were kind!

Match No. 21 – RRvMI – The debutan Jofra Archer showed his real game

RRvsMI - Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer has proved why he was so successful in BBL. The all rounder from West Indies took 3 wickets at an economy of 5.50. The thrillers refuse to die. Also Mumbai just can’t seem to come on the right side of them. At the 14th over stage the Royals were cruising, they had no business of taking this this close. And then Bumrah triggered a collapse, Mustafizur made it longer. But Gowtham, having only warmed the MI bench for the whole of 2017 showed them what they’d missed. In a display of sheer timing which included refusing singles, not just slogging, he sealed it, with two balls still in the bank. But let’s take nothing away from Samson, who did everything to set it up, and let someone else take the champagne. Mumbai have a lot to ponder, not least the lengths and the speeds they bowled in the final overs. It’s almost turning into one of those situations of finding ways to lose from any situation.

Match No. 17 – CSKvsRR – Watto! performance by Shane Watson

Shane Watson - IPL 2018 - CSKvRR

Age is just a number proven by Chris Gayle (38) and Shane Watson (36). Watto!! Performance by Shane Watson. Chennai Super Kings have won the match led by Watson’s brilliant hundred. Such was his belligerence at the start, that despite a jaded finish, 200 on the board was a given. Their bowlers had enough cushion to work with and they did the job that was asked of them. The Royals clearly struggling in that bowling department. Especially in the powerplay, it looks like Rahane doesn’t know where to go. Shreyas Gopal has been doing an outstanding job for them, but on pitches where the ball is not stopping and gripping, their pacers – who are well suited for bowling cutters – are disappearing. Jofra Archer couldn’t be more missed right now.

Match No.1- MIvsCSK – DJ Bravo changed the game

MIvsCSK

Indian Premier League had a thrilling opening match in Vivo IPL 2018 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The match was completely taken over by Mumbai Indians until Dwayne Bravo showed up his magical 6 hitting performance. Chennai Super Kings had returned to IPL by after two years of a ban and managed to win the 1st IPL match against the title-defending champions Mumbai Indians.

The coin was tossed and Chennai Super Kings won the toss. CSK elected to bowl first which any team captain would have done at Wankhede Stadium.

Match Number: 1

Team: MIvsCSK

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, 20:00 IST

Toss: CSK

MIvsCSK First Inning

Mumbai Indians innings had a bit slow start as MI scored only 5 runs in first over and lost their 1st wicket to the young bowler Deepak Chahar. Rohit Sharma couldn’t stand for long and gives away his wicket to Shane Watson by scoring just 15 runs from 18 balls. Then comes in Suryakumar Yadav who has played a lot of IPL matched knows how well to perform when the team needs him the most. Suryakumar Yadav batted brilliantly with six 4s & one 6s and scoring 43 runs from 29 balls. Along with Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan also batted well and scored 40 runs from 29 balls with four 4s and one 6s. Suryakumar Yadav lost his wicket to Watson and Ishan Kishan lost his wicket to Tahir. Now comes the Pandya brothers on the crease, Everyone including me would have expected Hardik Pandya to bat like a star batsman but the stars were shining on Kunal Pandya. Kunal Pandya scored 41 runs from 22 balls with five 4s and two 6s at 186.36 strike rate. CSK’s bowling side performed well and took 4 wickets of MI in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians set a target of 165 runs for Chennai Super Kings in 20 overs.

MIvsCSK Second Innings

Chennai Super Kings also had a slow start but the game was changed in the 4th over when injured Hardik Pandya took Shane Watson’s wicket. Rayudu was playing well along with Raina and then again Hardik Pandya strikes back and takes his second wicket. Chennai Super Kings loses one of their best batsmen. Then comes the captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the crowd at the Wankhede Stadiums goes mad. The young Mayank Markande took Ambati Rayudu wicket by LBW and got his first IPL wicket. Everyone was waiting to see the magical performance by MS Dhoni but the charged young Mayank Markande managed to take his wicket too and Dhoni was declared out after umpires review. Kedar Jadhav was playing good but he went back to dressing room due to the bad hamstring. Mayank Markande was in great form and got his third wicket after Ishan Kishan stumped Deepak Chahar for 0 runs. At this point, the Mumbai Indians were positively charged that they will be winning the match. But Dwayne Bravo was not satisfied with his performance so far and he blasted it all on Mumbai Indians bowlers. Bravo lost his wicket at the last bowl on 19th over to Bumrah, scoring 68 runs off 30 balls with three 4s and seven 6s. The injured Jadhav was back to the crease and found it difficult to score runs in first 3 balls of 20th over. On the 4th ball of 20th over, Jadhav hit a six and on the 5th ball he hits a four, and CSK won the 1st IPL 2018 match.

Winner: Chennai Super Kings

I think they missed the competition (on Wankhede fans cheering CSK). CSK-MI is one game that people wait to watch. Support has always been there wherever we’ve played. We’re coming back after two years, that’s also the reason that people are eager to watch us in action. Overall the spectators have been very good. I’m a practical person, so I was hoping in the dressing room that the quantum of defeat shouldn’t be too big. The idea was – if there’s a chance to win, go for it, but also try to get closer to the target. The way Bravo batted, it was really good to see him take the responsibility. Don’t think we batted well as a team. But it’s the first game, so we’ll take the positives out of it. Those will be more important for us in the coming games. The kind of players we have got, our selection will be based on horses for courses where we’ll see the wicket and then decide. We’ll also keep an eye for players who are injury prone. We’ll have to keep an eye on lot of things. We have quite a few who can bat and bowl – Dhoni, CSK captain

Man of Match: DJ Bravo

It was a great team effort. Want to dedicate this win to CSK fans. They waited so long for this moment. I’m happy to contribute with a match-winning performance. CSK have shown lot of faith in me. Wanted to give myself the best opportunity to start well. Have been working a lot on my batting. Here at Wankhede, once you bat deep, chances are you could win the game. It’s a small outfield, ball comes onto the bat. They bowled in my areas. Just happy with the win tonight.

To all of my teammates, to fans of cricket all over the world and to all Australians who are disappointed and angry.

What happened in Cape Town has already been laid out by Cricket Australia (CA).

Tonight I want to make it clear as captain of the Australian cricket team, I take full responsibility.

I made a serious error of judgement and I now understand the consequences. It was a failure of leadership, on my leadership. I’ll do everything I can to make up for my mistake and the damage it’s caused.

If any good can come from this, if it can be a lesson to others, then I hope I can be a force for change.

“I know I will regret this for the rest of my life. I’m absolutely gutted. I hope in time I can earn back respect and forgiveness.”

To see the way my old man’s been and my mum, it hurts.

I want to say I’m sorry and the pain I’ve brought to Australia and the fans and the public, it’s devastating and I’m truly sorry.

I’m deeply sorry. I love the game of cricket … I love entertaining young kids … I love kids wanting to play the great game of cricket that I love.

Messi Reaches 500 career goals for Barcelona

500 career goals for lionel messi

500 Career Goals

Lionel Messi reached 500 career goals with Barcelona after he scored twice against Real Madrid in El Clasico, including the last-minute winner. The 29 year old has now scored 23 career goals vs. Madrid and extended his own record in games between the two teams.

Messi has spent his entire professional career at Barca, joining the Catalan club from Newell’s Old Boys in 2001 when he was still only 14.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 500th club goal earlier this season but Messi reached the landmark at a younger age and in fewer games. Ronaldo was 31 years and 313 days old; Messi was 29 years and 304 days. Moreover, it took Messi 112 fewer games to reach 500.

With his brace against Madrid, he has now reached another milestone and, given he is still only 29, there could still be many more records to come.
